 Things to Consider

Uniforms

Verity students wear a soft, comfortable Verity t-shirt or sweatshirt with any neutral colored pants, skirt, shorts, or skort. Shirts are purchased by families in late summer and cost between $14 and $20. Most students purchase at least two shirts.

Church Affiliation

Verity is unabashedly Christian, and we teach from a biblical worldview. We are NOT affiliated with any specific denomination. We currently have students and teachers from 12 different area churches, as well as unchurched students, and we delight in sharing in God's world, truth, and love together.

Did you know that Verity comes from the Latin word veritas which translates to truth in English?

Parent Equipping

Verity offers a Parent Equipping workshop in late summer. We help families set goals for your homeschool and make a plan for your home-days. Verity teachers will walk parents through the math and language arts curriculum to ensure you understand it and know how to use it effectively at home. We also gift Verity families with a Verity-specific template to help you easily log your homeschool hours. Throughout the year, we are available to support and encourage you on your homeschooling journey.

Core Subjects

Our Academic Days always include a minimum of one hour each of math, language arts, reading/fluency, and history/geography. Our Fantastic Fridays always include at least one half hour of science. We almost always add in additional literature, and often additional science.

Non-Core Subjects

We enjoy many non-core fun at the Schoolhouse! Our weeks are peppered with art projects, Bible study, hymns, physical education, character development, nature walks, folk songs, poetry and speeches, presentation skills, and life skills. Our students play hard and spend time outdoors unless it is dangerously cold. During our lunch and etiquette sessions, students make a pasta or holiday lunch together and share a sit-down meal with a special guest who teaches us simple table manners.

Community

We love to share Verity with the community, and we love for community members to share their passions, talents, and interests with Verity students. We have had locals present to us about trains, bee-keeping, crocheting, painting, health and wellness, fire-starting, brain science, etc. We have a regular guest, Mrs. Sohn, who teaches etiquette lessons during our Lunch and Etiquette sessions, while Mrs. Kormeier (former owner of Glady Fay's) helps us make delicious desserts. We visit a local retirement home once a year and share our songs and poetry.

Academic Day

Our Academic Tuesdays and Thursdays begin with drop-off between 8:15 a.m. and 8:25 a.m. Morning Time beings at 8:30. We pray together, recite Scripture and poetry, sing a hymn, learn character/relationship building skills, and read a fun book. The morning is filled with math, language arts, creative space, reading/fluency practice, science of reading lessons, and a half hour recess. At noon we break for lunch and recess. Our afternoons are devoted to Bible study, history, geography, and literature. We end our day with Positives and Prayer, during which students "shout out" things they saw their peers doing well that day. We clean up after ourselves and head outside to play until pick-up at 3:00 p.m.

Fantastic Friday

Our Friday mornings begin with drop off between 8:45 a.m. - 8:55 a.m. We start our day with a more leisurely Morning Time, adding fun and lively folksongs and sharing to our gathering. The remainder of the morning is spent reading books, taking a nature walk, nature-journaling, and working on a skill, craft, hobby, or science-related lesson. We always allow time for snack and a recess mid-morning. Pick up is at noon.

Celebrations

Verity hosts two celebrations: one at Christmas, and one in the spring. Our celebrations are an opportunity for parents, grandparents, relatives, and friends to get a glimpse of what we've worked on throughout the semester. We showcase the spirit and culture of Verity with simple plays, recitations, songs, art, and dance.

We celebrate birthdays monthly with birthday gift bags, birthday treats, and a song.

During  our daily Praise and Prayer, we put a marble in a jar for every shout out. Once the jar is full, we have a school-wide celebration: show-and-tell, wear-your-pjs, ice cream tr, or stuffy-day.

Missouri Homeschool Laws

Missiouri law dictates that you must provide your child with at least 1,000 hours of instruction every school term.

600 of the 1,000 hours of instruction must be among one or more of the following core subjects:

  • reading,

  • math,

  • social studies,

  • language arts, and

  • science.

Homeschool Support

Verity is a not a school, but a homeschool support organization. We come alongside homeschool families and offer accountability, community, and genuine support. We offer classes in a home-like, gentle, encouraging atmosphere with trained and seasoned teachers. The hybrid model gives students the opportunity to learn among peers, offering opportunities to grow in leadership, responsibility, and relationships. It gives the homeschool parents a break from teaching and the momentum and rhythm of schooling with a community. We delight in spurring your child on, not only to love her one, precious, God-given life, but to love to learn, and grow in wisdom, knowledge, and relationships.

Preparation for Life

Will homeschooling prepare my child for the future? What if we decide to go to a public or parochial school in a few years?

Homeschooling can be an incredible path to discover your child's unique talents, intelligence, and abilities. As the primary teacher, parents are able to help children aim high and reach their goals. A homeschooling lifestyle can allow time for a family to travel, study special interests, dive into sports, or spend time outdoors. You have the opportunity to not just teach your child, but to foster a love of learning and give them the tools to learn anything for the rest of their lives. Faithful homeschooling prepares students well for whatever the future has in store.
